Effective Treatment Methods in Voice Therapy
Traditional voice therapy methods are based primarily in implicit instruction. An integrated implicit-explicit learning approach to voice therapy combines implicit instruction with higher cortical understanding of the explicit mechanisms of voice production, causing a synergistic learning effect. This workshop includes the results of groundbreaking research that demonstrates this learning effect. Participants will learn the explicit model of instruction used in this voice therapy method, as well as how to apply this method to a wide variety of different voice disorders.
A Solution-Focused Approach to Counseling and Treatment
A solution-focused approach to counseling and treatment in speech-language pathology and audiology shifts the emphasis from the disorder being treated to the goals the client wants to achieve through therapy. This workshop will detail The Solution Cycle, a practical, four-step, nonlinear, leadership model of an inclusive interviewing and counseling process. Participants will explore real-world applications of this approach to use in the therapy process, including the 5 Intentions of Communication, the Circle of Power, and the Counseling-Integration Matrix.
Interpersonal Effectiveness and Leadership Training
Communication effectiveness and leadership are essential skills clinicians should have in the assessment and treatment process in speech-language pathology and audiology. Participants in the this workshop will learn to be leaders in their careers. Fundamental skills in rapport building, public speaking, confidence and credibility training, administration and management, as well as interpersonal effectiveness and conflict resolution will be demonstrated and explored.
